Operating conditions for cables

Cables and wires should be selected so that they are suitable for the operating conditions and the respective device protection class.

The operating conditions include:

  • Voltage
  • Electricity
  • Protective measures
  • Accumulation of cables
  • Type of installation
  • Accessibility
Cables should be selected so that they are suitable for all external influences that may occur.

External influences include, among others:

  • Ambient temperature
  • Rain
  • Water vapor, or accumulation of water
  • Presence of corrosive, contaminating or other chemical substances
  • Mechanical stresses (e.g. sharp edges of metal structures)
  • Animal world (e.g. rodents)
  • Plant life / fungi (e.g. molds)
  • Radiation (e.g. sunlight)

Note: In this context, it should be noted that the color is of great importance, and the color “black” offers greater protection against radiation than other colors.
