Pt100 Table - Basic Values of Mineral Insulated Resistance Thermometers

What is a Pt100? What is the resistance of a Pt100 at 0°C?

A Pt100 is a platinum resistance thermometer (Pt=Platinum) with a defined resistance value of 100 Ω at a temperature of 0 °C. The resistance of a Pt100 increases with increasing temperature (positive temperature coefficient). At 100 °C, the resistance is 138.51 Ω.

Pt100 sensors are often used in industrial environments due to their accurate temperature measurement. In the Pt100 resistance table you will find the resistance value in ohms (Ω), in relation to the temperature at the measuring point. The measuring accuracy of a Pt100 element depends on the accuracy class. This is divided into two accuracy classes: Class A and Class B. In the following table you will find the resistance values for Pt100 resistors (basic values) as well as the permissible deviation of the electrical resistance value or the temperature deviation for class A and class B.

Accuracy of Pt100 in class A and class B

The measurement accuracy of a Pt100 sensor at a temperature of °C is ±0.15 °C in class A, and the limit deviation in ohms is ±0.06 Ω. In class B, the permissible deviation is ±0.12 Ω or ±0.30 °C.

C-196 up to +600-50 up to +600± (0,6 + 0,01 [t])
* [t] = value of temperature in °C without considering the sign.

For resistance thermometers that belong to the above context, the temperature coefficient α is defined as:

α = (R100 - R0) : (100 x R0) = and has the numerical value 0,003851/°C

with: R100 is the resistance at 100°C and R0 is the resistance at 0°C.

Pt100 vs. Pt1000

Compared to Pt100, Pt1000 have a higher resistance by a factor of 10. The resistance value of a Pt1000 is 1000 Ω at a temperature of 0 °C. The accuracy classes Class A and Class B are defined indentically for both types according to DIN EN 60751. Thus, a Pt1000 can provide a more accurate measurement compared to a Pt100 because it reflects a higher resolution of the measured value. Similar to the Pt100 characteristic curve, the Pt1000 characteristic curve is largely linear.
