How do I choose the right data cable?
Selection table for data cables
The selection of the right data cable depends on the conditions of use of the cable. There are a number of features and criteria that must be taken into account in the selection process. One essential feature is the bending radius. Typically, data cables have a minimum bending radius of 5 x D when permanently installed or 10 x D when freely movable. However, other bending radii may also be required.
Important features of a data cable concern the basic structure of the cable such as:
- Outer diameter
- Shielding
- Bending radius
- Flexibility
- Temperature range
- Standards and approvals
- Stresses and resistances
When selecting the right data cable, the following questions are particularly important:
- What is the temperature range of the cable?
- What voltage class is required?
- Which standards, approvals or certifications are required?
- With which media does the cable come into contact? (oil resistance, chemical resistance)
- How flexible should the cable be?
As a manufacturer of data cables for various applications with over 75 years of experience, we would like to provide you with the data cable selection guide as an initial decision-making aid in selecting the optimum data cable for your individual application and field of use.
Detailed data and technical properties of the SABData cables can be found on the respective product page, which you can access by clicking on the cable type. Of course, you can also contact the SAB-Team directly.
If you cannot find the right data cable for your application, we will be happy to help you select the right cable. At the customer's request, we can also design and produce a suitable data cable for you that exactly meets your technical requirements and your individual area of application. In many cases, we can realise this from as little as 300 m.
